The fragile Arctic environment is testimony to the biggest and fastest signs of climate change. This film follows a team from the European Environment Agency who participate in a multisport adventure race across 250 kilometers of Arctic wildness where they encounter the effects of climate change first hand and meet eyewitnesses to the impact of the Arctic environment and the people who it is first effecting. What is happening to the Inuit people today will happen to the rest of the world tomorrow.

Directors note
Our film "Our Arctic Challenge", is a film on climate change and adaptation. We have produced a more entertaining science film that do not use archive pictures but only pictures shot at location showing the actually effects of climate change - you can say "what you see is what you get". It is an entertaining and story driven film attracting new audiences that normally would not see films on these topics.

The film won the Audience Award for Best Documentary at Oxford International Film Festival in Ohio. However, looking at the global warming issue it is still about 50% of the populations in the western world that either do not believe in climate change or do not know what to believe due to confusion in the media picture etc. The typical viewer get global warming presented by very dramatic and archive driven pictures of collapsing glaciers, hurricanes, flods etc. This seems to end up having an "immune effect" like when watching constant pictures from wars like Iraq etc.
With the numbers mentioned before of 50% of western world population not believing in global warming, it is time to communicate on a different level since it is crucial to change the public opinion and not only "the elite", if we want to change the world and life style of people. You can see more at www.ourarcticchallenge.com.

The other day I was at a seminar with former Vice President of IPCC, Mohan Munasinghe. It was once again a bit of an eye opener. Even if we press stop for all CO2 emissions tomorrow the temperaure will in average still rise 1½ degree celcius at the end of this century! We still have time to make a change, meaning avoiding that the temperature does not rise even further, by making action. The good part is that it is possible, also in real life. We have just finished a new film on climate change solutions about a municipality in an EU country. It is a blueprint for adapting to climate change. Producing almost 100% of it's own sustainable energy, it is one of the worlds leading climate friendly regions. They have achieved what others talk about.

The citizens and companies have even got many bonuses, which for example includes heating expences of 1/3 compared to if they used oil. So bottomline is, that this region is leading the way and shows we can only benefit from changing to the so called hydro economy. The main point is that we can all do something to adapt to climate change by choosing to make a difference.

Please let us hear your view on our film.

All the best
