While visiting Pakistan in 2000, Brian, an Australian Gothic and puppeteer, falls in love with Amber, a young Muslim woman in Lahore. Back home in Australia, he decides to convert to Islam and return to Pakistan to seek Amber’s hand in marriage. When she accepts Brian’s proposal, her family refuses to give their blessing. What unfolds is a long and difficult process that leads to frustration, disbelief, and despair.
